The show has seen a 43% decline in its total viewership in 2024 since Election Day, with an average of only 1.4 million total viewers tuning in since Trump's sweeping victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to One America News, this significant drop was identified after comparing the average viewership of "The Rachel Maddow Show" from the start of 2024 until Election Day, to the viewership figures post-November 6th. The show, which was once a daily fixture, was reduced to a weekly broadcast in 2022 by Maddow, who cited a desire to "pursue other projects" despite a hefty salary. She recently inked a new contract to remain as the face of MSNBC for the foreseeable future.
The show's performance among the crucial demographic of adults aged 25-54 has been even more dismal, losing a staggering 56% of its audience since the election, with an average of only 103,000 viewers. At its peak, "The Rachel Maddow Show" was a strong contender for the title of "most-watched cable news host." However, Maddow has since relinquished the 9 p.m. ET slot on four days of the week to Alex Wagner, who recently recorded her lowest-rated week ever.
Maddow, who now covers the network's most significant events such as Election Night, also hosts podcasts and works on multiple side projects during her time away from MSNBC. Her previous contract reportedly earned her $30 million per year. However, her new deal, as reported by The Ankler, is said to be worth a lesser $25 million a year over the next five years, a figure disputed by MSNBC insiders.
JEFFREY EPSTEIN'S EX-CELLMATE EXPOSES SOME MORE DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS!
December 13, 2024
Joe Concha, a Fox News correspondent who has spent years covering the media industry, opined that it's hardly surprising that a host who "so strongly supported Kamala Harris" is losing viewers after the election results. "What was surprising is that MSNBC still doled out $25 million to her to work one night a week. And the return on investment is that she finishes a distant second to Sean Hannity at 9 P.M. Is that money well spent? Rhetorical question," Concha told Fox News Digital.
TRUMP'S FAMILY CIRCLE LOOKS DIFFERENT THIS TIME AROUND!
Maddow, known for her relentless criticism of Trump and for promoting now-debunked theories linking him to Russia, saw her show thrive off the left's pursuit of Trump, with viewership peaking at 3.2 million in 2020. In 2021, she scaled back her workload after a lengthy hiatus. Notably, before the election, Maddow had predicted that Trump "would be a dictator" if re-elected.
As the media landscape continues to shift in response to political changes, it remains to be seen how Maddow and MSNBC will navigate these turbulent waters.
