In a recent episode of CNN's Inside Politics, host Dana Bash and guest Neill Franklin, a former Maryland State Police Commander, engaged in a speculative discussion that bordered on conspiracy theory.

The topic of conversation was the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Franklin suggested that Thompson may have "orchestrated" his own demise, a claim that, while intriguing, was backed by little more than conjecture.

According to Gateway Pundit, Franklin's primary piece of evidence was the assassin's knowledge of Thompson's whereabouts at a specific time. He argued that the killer's precise timing and location suggested insider knowledge. Bash, rather than challenging this claim, seemed to support it, noting that the assassin indeed "knew" where Thompson would be.

Brian Thompson was tragically murdered outside the Hilton Hotel early Wednesday morning, as reported by Gateway Pundit. The CEO was attending a conference and was shot multiple times by a masked individual who appeared to have been waiting for him. Franklin, drawing on his investigative background, found this premeditated nature of the attack particularly unsettling.

Further intrigue was added to the case when detectives discovered inscribed shell casings at the crime scene. The casings, three live 9mm rounds and three discharged ones, bore the words "Deny," "Defend," and "Depose." This discovery, coupled with the revelation from Thompson's wife, Paulette, that the family had received threats possibly linked to insurance coverage disputes, suggested a potential motive.

However, CNN was not alone in its speculative coverage of the incident. Gateway Pundit also highlighted comments made by former Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz on social media, where she stated, "And people wonder why we want these executives dead."

The mainstream media's readiness to entertain conspiracy theories contrasts sharply with their treatment of conservative viewpoints. When conservatives question mainstream narratives, whether on COVID-19, the 2020 election, or President Biden's cognitive health, they are often labeled as conspiracy theorists or even dangerous.

Despite the lack of substantial evidence, Bash continued to entertain Franklin's theory. In their exchange, Franklin suggested that Thompson might have arranged his own assassination for reasons such as insurance or fear of future investigations. Bash responded by asking if Thompson could have hired someone to kill him, to which Franklin replied, "Absolutely. It cannot be ignored."

The conversation ended with Franklin reiterating his belief that the assassin had too much specific information about Thompson's location and timing. He argued that the narrow window of time and the assassin's apparent preparedness suggested inside knowledge. Bash simply responded, "He knew."

This speculation, while intriguing, remains just that - speculation. As the investigation into Thompson's tragic death continues, one can only hope that the truth will emerge, and justice will be served. Until then, it is essential to remember that speculation and conspiracy theories can often do more harm than good, especially when they detract from the pursuit of factual information and justice.
