In a recent podcast episode, Jon Stewart, the renowned comedian and political commentator, criticized the media for their portrayal of a bleak future for America even before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.

Stewart, who was joined by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on the episode, questioned the media's role in creating a sense of panic and uncertainty among the public before Trump's inauguration.

According to Mediaite, Stewart expressed his doubts about the media's approach, saying, "I’m unsure how 'helpful it is' to get people 'shitting their pants this much' over the incoming president before the inauguration." He further commented on the nation's current state of transition following a tumultuous year, saying, "We appear transitional period where we are not sure about whether the ground we are standing on is solid."

Stewart argued that the media has prematurely decided on the stability of the nation's future, likening the situation to a cartoon scenario. "The news media seems convinced that we are the Roadrunner and the Coyote, and the Coyote has run over the cliff, and we just looked down and realized there’s nothing under our feet and now we are plunging to our deaths," he said, adding that the media is "always very circumspect."

The comedian acknowledged the uncertainty of the future under Trump's leadership, stating, "We 'unfortunately can’t see into the future' and we ultimately 'don’t know what’s going to happen when Donald Trump takes over.'" He compared Trump's presidency to a summer stay with a less-favored parent, saying it's like "the kids are going to live with dad for the summer and you just have to fucking eat it."

Stewart, a vocal critic of Trump, expressed his support for a more "efficient" government and "fundamental" changes, as Trump and his allies have promised. However, he admitted it's "strange" because he doesn’t "trust" the people that will make up the next administration. He concluded by urging the public to be prepared for all outcomes, reiterating his criticism of the media for inciting unnecessary panic. "I don’t know how helpful it is to get us shitting our pants this much, this early," he said.

Stewart's comments serve as a reminder of the media's influence and the importance of maintaining a balanced perspective in the face of political change. As the nation awaits Trump's inauguration, it is crucial to remember that the future, while uncertain, is not predetermined by media narratives.
