In a recent episode of his globally renowned podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience," Joe Rogan critically assessed the mainstream media's portrayal of President-elect Donald Trump.

Rogan, who played a significant role in the 2024 election by interviewing and later endorsing Trump, argued that the media, once amicable towards Trump, has since orchestrated a years-long "psy-op" to convince Americans of his alleged danger.

According to Fox News, Rogan, a former liberal, has been vocal about his disillusionment with the media, accusing them of losing credibility with voters and alienating lifelong liberals. During the episode, Rogan, alongside comedians Shane Gillis, Mark Normans, and Ari Shaffir, reminisced about the media's previous cordiality towards Trump. They cited instances such as Trump's 2012 appearance on "The View," where he was received with applause, and his interview with Oprah, where she inquired about his presidential aspirations.

However, Rogan pointed out the stark contrast in the media's current portrayal of Trump, describing it as the "greatest media psy-op in history." He claimed that the media has manipulated Trump's image to such an extent that most people have adopted their distorted perception. "What you’re seeing with Trump, regardless of his flaws, is a massive concentrated psy-op," Rogan stated. "They’ve distorted who he is to the point where most people think that way. Most people think that way. They’ve had narratives."

When Normand queried the meaning of "psy-op," Rogan clarified it as a "psychological operation" aimed at distorting people's perceptions. Shaffir added to the conversation by expressing the surprise of older liberals upon learning that former President Obama oversaw more deportations than Trump. "They go, ‘That doesn’t make sense.’ And you go, ‘Right, focus on what’s giving you the reality of the world,’" he said.

The conversation took a surprising turn when Rogan asked his producer, Jamie, to play a 2008 recording of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing views on illegal immigrants that echoed Trump's stance. In the recording, Clinton can be heard saying, "I think we got to have tough conditions. Tell people to come out of the shadows. If they’ve committed a crime, deport them, no questions asked." She continued, "If they’ve been working and are law-abiding, we should say, ‘Here are the conditions for you staying. You have to pay a stiff fine because you came here illegally. You have to pay back taxes and you have to try to learn English. And you have to wait in line.’"

Rogan and his guests were taken aback by Clinton's past comments, with Rogan remarking, "2008. Hillary Clinton was more MAGA than Trump. But how about that? More MAGA than Trump. It’s all a f---ing illusion. All of them, when convenient, have said the exact same things."

Rogan concluded by suggesting that the recent election indicates a shift in media control. "They had control of the media up until now. This election was the first time they didn’t really have control of the media anymore," he said. When asked why, Rogan attributed this change to the rise of podcasts and social media, which have disrupted traditional media's monopoly on information dissemination.
