According to Newsweek, California Governor Gavin Newsom recently addressed the perceived lackluster performance of President Joe Biden during the presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.

Newsom's comments came during an appearance on MSNBC's debate analysis program, where he was questioned about Biden's performance and the growing sentiment among some that Biden should "step down" before the November election.

Newsom, a Democrat, dismissed the speculation that Democrats might consider replacing Biden on the ticket as "unhelpful" and "unnecessary." He asserted, "We've got to have the back of this president. You don't turn your back because of one performance. What kind of party does that? Democrats deliver. This president has delivered. We need to deliver for him at this moment. With all due respect, the more time we start having these conversations, go down these rabbit holes, it's unhelpful to our democracy, our fate and future of this country. The world, they need us right now to step up and that's exactly what I intend to do."

Amidst the debate, Newsom, who has been viewed by some as a potential replacement for Biden, firmly stated that he would not be the Democratic candidate in November, dismissing the idea as a "non sequitur." He also expressed his pride in Biden's leadership.
