In a shocking incident that unfolded in the heart of Washington D.C., a bride-to-be was among several victims injured in a shooting at Decades, a popular nightclub on Connecticut Avenue NW.

The incident occurred on April 26, around 11:30 p.m., as security personnel were attempting to escort the alleged shooter, Rennwel Mantock, out of the premises.

The woman, identified only as "Katie," is a mother of three and was due to be married in two weeks. Speaking to FOX 5 DC, she said, "I’m in a lot of pain, and I am just thankful that I am alive." She recounted the horrifying moments, saying, "The bouncer lifted up the rope after the first shot was fired, and then as I was running … I got hit."

The shooting took place in a district known for its bustling nightlife and robust security measures, raising questions about the effectiveness of the existing safety protocols.

According to D.C. court records, Mantock faces six counts of assault with intent to kill and six counts of firearm possession during a violent crime.

The police report reveals that Mantock claimed he was "dancing on a lady when security approached him telling him he had to leave the club." He alleged that security personnel grabbed him by the neck, punched him in the face, and dragged him down the stairs. Mantock claimed that it was this altercation that prompted him to pull out his gun and open fire, as he was "very upset about the security punching him in the face."

Following the shooting, authorities recovered Mantock's firearm from beneath a vehicle where he allegedly discarded it. Six victims, including Katie, were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The U.S. Secret Service played a key role in apprehending Mantock. The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward, either by calling 202-727-9099 or texting 50411.
