In a recent appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Democratic Senator Tim Kaine engaged in a discussion with moderator Kristen Welker about the escalating turmoil on college campuses.

When asked about Speaker Mike Johnson's suggestion to deploy the National Guard, Kaine responded, "I think that would be a very, very bad idea. I think there are other ways, using campus security, but also again, offering students more opportunity to have dialogue that is civil and constructive where people hear one another."

While Kaine advocates for civility, concerns are growing over the safety threats posed by agitators on campuses, which also disrupt the educational process. A recent incident at the University of Indiana serves as a case in point.

Welker further probed Kaine on the role of the Biden administration in addressing these campus issues. Kaine stated, "People have a right to protest and make their views known and almost you know overwhelming percentages of people do that peacefully. But there are those that intimidate and harass others." He suggested that the administration could highlight colleges where difficult topics, like Israel and Gaza, are being discussed in a constructive manner, serving as a model for others.

However, despite Kaine's assertion that the majority of protestors are peaceful, the reality on many campuses seems to contradict this. For instance, police at Arizona State University were recently compelled to dismantle tents erected by agitators.

Additionally, Cal Poly Humboldt was forced to shut down its campus last Friday when agitators occupied the college President's office. These incidents underscore the pressing need for effective solutions to restore peace and safety on college campuses.
