In 2022, the Atlantic reported that death by mysterious circumstances, or “Sudden Russian Death Syndrome,” claimed some two dozen officials and oligarchs.

According to the New York Post, reports indicate a young vice president of a Russian bank tragically fell to her death from her 11th-floor apartment window in Moscow, adding to the list of mysterious fatal falls in the country.

The incident occurred on June 23. The 28-year-old Kristina Baikova, the vice president of Loko-Bank, plummeted from her window and was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the Baza Telegram channel.

According to Baza’s report, the Post reported that Baikova was in the company of a 34-year-old male friend named Andrei at the time of the incident. The man stated that Baikova invited him to her apartment on Khodynsky Boulevard for drinks and mentioned that she had gone onto her balcony before the tragic fall. Baikova’s death is being investigated.

This incident adds to a concerning trend in Russia, where several executives have died in similar circumstances by falling from building windows, as highlighted by the Daily Mail. A well-known critic of President Vladimir Putin, Dan Rapoport plunged to his death from his Washington, DC, luxury apartment building last August. He had been exiled from Russia. Some suggested he committed suicide, but his wife disputed that claim.
