A female New York Times op-ed writer agreed to box a male to make a point.

Elizabeth Spiers says she is willing to take on a transwoman to prove that transwomen should be allowed in women's sports.

In a tweet, Spiers, a professor at N.Y.U.'s Graduate School of Journalism, wrote, "I've never boxed in my life, but if I did, I'd be fine with boxing a trans woman in my weight class. The women's sports nonsense is just a vehicle for transphobia and has nothing to do with fairness in sports." A Twitter user had offered "$10k to charity of Elizabeth's choice if she boxes a transwoman."

The Daily Caller reported the saga began when the female Democratic pollster responded to a tweet from WomenAreReal. She said, "Protecting female sports' is a conservative message." This prompted WomenAreReal to ask, "How is 'protect female sports' a conservative message?"

Spiers clapped back. "Because liberals don't deny that trans women are women. You do."

This wasn't the first Twitter response from Spiers that has raised some eyebrows. According to Fox News, Dan McLaughlin addressed the safety of New York's subways following the Jordan Neely incident, tweeting, "If a 'polite society' means one where people can safely ride the subway to work or take their children out in public without being accosted & menaced by half-naked lunatics, you might be surprised how many people of all backgrounds would like that."

Spiers wrote, "Hi - New Yorker here. I've safely ridden the subway for 23 years, and my child has never been menaced by a half-naked lunatic, but these imaginary monsters in your head are addressable with therapy."

Some Twitter users speculated whether her tweet was satire, while others called it "delusional."

One wonders whether her tweet about boxing a transwoman may also be delusional.

Boxing, as a physical sport, may be more than the pro-trans advocate bargained for. In August, the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.) released a study showing that trans women, a.k.a. biological men, have physiological advantages over natural women. The study showed greater muscle mass, lung capacity, bone density, and higher oxygen levels in trans women.

The study found, "The former male physiology of trans women athletes gives them a physiological advantage over the cis-female athlete. The inclusion of trans women in the elite female division must be reconsidered for fairness to female-born athletes."

If Spiers indeed enters the boxing ring, she may get a rude awakening.
