Missouri has joined several other states in creating new laws that will ban child sex changes and biological men from competing in women’s sports.

The Post Millennial reports that this makes Missouri the 16th state to make these changes to its laws.

One bill bans Missouri minors from access to puberty blockers, hormones, and sex change surgery. The bill also goes so far as to prevent prisoners from receiving surgical sex changes. According to ABC, it prevents Medicaid from covering the cost of gender-affirming surgeries across the state.

A separate bill passed in Missouri will prevent biological males from participating in women’s and girls’ sports in the state. The law will be enforced in public and private schools throughout the state and will apply from kindergarten through college.

Senate Republicans and Democrats agreed that the bills will expire in 2027 and must be reinstated again to reinstate them. The bills will now go to Republican Gov. Mike Parson’s for his signature.

The ACLU of Missouri took issue with the bills and stated that they represented the “weaponization of the government.”

ABC News reports that Kansas City Council members convened a meeting on Wednesday and proposed a resolution to make Kansas City a “sanctuary city” for people seeking gender-affirming care.

The proposed resolution contends that the city will not enforce laws preventing people from seeking the care they seek. ABC reported that the proposed resolution would ensure that Kansas City would not prosecute people offering these services within city limits.

A trans-identified resident named Merrique Jenso told the council committee: “It would minimize the legal violence toward trans people in accessing gender-affirming care.”

In 2023, more than twenty bills aimed at criminalizing child sex changes have been introduced in state legislatures. It is an issue that has struck a chord with many, and many states are finally taking action to change what is allowed within their borders.
