Female students at one Arizona high school are disturbed by the official school policy telling them to leave their locker room if they are uncomfortable around a transgender student.

The Daily Caller reports that the Catalina Foothills School District board told parents that it would NOT be reviewing a policy that tells female students to leave a locker room if they are uncomfortable being around a transgender student in that locker room. This information was gleaned from an email from the Daily Caller News Foundation regarding the school’s lack of a policy change, following questions from the public and some of the students who attend the school.

Just earlier this month, the Catalina Foothills High School (CFHS) was put under a microscope when it became apparent that the school had an “unwritten policy” of telling female students to leave a dressing room if uncomfortable around transgender students. Those upset with this policy are angry that female students are told to leave their changing rooms if they aren’t comfortable with a transgender student in the same locker room.

CFSD Governing Board President Eileen Jackson wrote the following about the policies set up by the school: “After listening to public comment on this topic, considering the variety of emails received from you and other constituents, and reviewing additional information that board members requested from Dr. Kamerzell, no Board member has requested this discussion be placed on an agenda.”

She then continued by saying in an email that the policy set up by the school has her full support: “By not requesting this item be added to a future agenda, I am expressing my full support of the policy and our administrators’ implementation of this policy in our schools.”

Parents who have students in the school only recently learned about this policy, and previous students claim that the unwritten policy has existed for at least the last ten years. That is a big deal because this kind of thing has flown under the radar of many parents and students in the system for a long time.

This kind of thing has parents around the country upset and concerned that such policies might be covertly in place in the school systems where they send their children. Given that many schools need to hide their policies under the radar and in an unwritten fashion, it is hard to say precisely what is happening.
