A lot of people, no matter what their political affiliation, are watching the rise of Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida with considerable interest.

DeSantis won his re-election campaign in 2022 by a wide margin, a bright spot for what otherwise was a disappointing year for conservatives. He won by picking culture war fights against such targets as woke universities, the teachers’ unions, and even the Disney company.

Naturally, as the 2024 presidential campaign draws nigh, pundits have started to tout DeSantis as a presidential candidate. In the view of some, he has developed a reputation as a Trump without the off-putting drama.

How does the other resident of Florida, Donald J. Trump, feel about being challenged for the presidency by DeSantis? The Blaze explains.

When asked about the possibility of a DeSantis primary challenge, Trump stated, “we’ll handle that,” implying that it will be the same way he handles many threats to his power and prestige. If DeSantis throws his hat in the ring, he can expect a bare-knuckle fight from the former and perhaps future President.

Trump and DeSantis have a complicated relationship. The then President endorsed the current Governor in 2018 when he ran for the first time. After DeSantis won narrowly, Trump boasted that his endorsement was the decisive factor in winning the governorship.

Fast forward a few years, Trump’s attitude toward his potential rival has soured. The former President has called the Governor “Ron DeSanctimonious.” Trump described DeSantis as “an average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations.”

If DeSantis dares to challenge Trump for the presidency, he said, “He could hurt himself very badly.” He said, “I think he would be making a mistake. I think the base would not like it. “The threat could not be more apparent.

Former President Trump is approaching the idea of a challenge by DeSantis with his characteristic self-confidence. After all, he polished off a bevy of Republicans before trouncing Hillary Clinton in 2016.

However, as Fox News reports, new polls should give Trump some pause. The polls show DeSantis in the lead in any hypothetical matchup between him and Trump.

So far, DeSantis has not responded to Trump’s barbs. He is concentrating on being Governor, continuing his culture war strategy that has served him so well. In his second inaugural address, DeSantis called Florida “where woke goes to die.”

Rumor has it that DeSantis is in no hurry to announce for the presidency. The announcement will only happen after the current session of the Florida legislature ends in May.
