Before the announcement that President Biden had purloined classified documents and had stored them in three (so far) unsecured locations, most observers of politics thought that Biden’s son Hunter and the infamous laptop would be the center of investigations. Now “the Big Guy” has entered the realm of political scandals.
According to the Western Journal, the news that Biden possessed the classified documents in an office in Washington and a garage and room at his private home in Delaware gave Merrick Garland no choice. Garland has appointed Robert Hur, a former United States attorney, to investigate whether or not the President of the United States has committed any crimes in his handling of the classified documents.

According to the Daily Wire, Garland stated, after the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch, who had been handling the investigation, advised him to appoint a special counsel, “On January 5th, 2023, Mr. Lausch briefed me on the results of his initial investigation and advised me that further investigation by a special counsel was warranted. Based on Mr. Lausch’s initial investigation, I concluded that, under the special counsel regulations, it was in the public interest to appoint a special counsel. In the days since, while Mr. Lausch continued the investigation, the department identified Mr. Hur for appointment as special counsel.”

Garland gave Hur his marching orders, “The document authorizes him to investigate whether any person or entity violated the law in connection with this matter. The special counsel will not be subject to the day-to-day supervision of any official of the department, but he must comply with the regulations, procedures and policies of the department.”

When the second batch of documents were found in the garage, President Biden addressed the matter at a press conference by stating that the material was safe as they were locked up next to his Corvette.

Currently, how long Hur’s investigation will take is unknown. It should be noted that President Biden has planned to announce his run for a second term as President of the United States. The documents scandal will undoubtedly complicate that plan even if it does not amount to anything.
