Fast forward about three years. The Post Millennial reports that President Joe Biden has imposed similar restrictions on travelers from China. The people who condemned Trump regard Biden’s mandate as a sensible precaution.
The story begins when the Chinese people rose against Beijing’s harsh “zero covid” policies that often-involved people being locked in their homes. The vaccines in China are even more ineffective than those in the West.

Instead of letting the army loose on the Chinese people, Beijing relaxed the lockdown regime. Consequently, COVID-19 has spread like wildfire in China, with hospitals overrun and bodies piling up.

Undaunted, the Chinese government relaxed restrictions on international travel for its citizens. At that point, President Biden imposed restrictions on the entry of Chinese citizens to the United States.

To enter the United States by air, anyone over the age of 2 traveling from China, Hong Kong, or Macau must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test. The restriction applies to travelers of any nationality and regardless of vaccination status. Travelers entering the United States from Seoul, Vancouver, or Toronto will also have to present a negative COVID-19 test if they had previously been in China within the previous two days.

Fox News notes that Japan, India, Italy, South Korea, and Taiwan have also imposed restrictions on travelers from China.
Biden, it should be noted, had been one of the critics of President Trump’s similar policy regarding travelers from China. Trump posted a message on Twitter defending his mandate. “I always treated the Chinese Virus very seriously, and have done a very good job from the beginning, including my very early decision to close the “borders” from China - against the wishes of almost all. Many lives were saved. The Fake News new narrative is disgraceful & false!”

Biden, then a candidate for President of the United States, retorted, “Stop the xenophobic fear-mongering. Be honest. Take responsibility. Do your job.”
Biden repeated the xenophobia charge in a speech attacking Trump and his travel restriction policy.
Now, Biden is following the same policy he condemned as xenophobic when Trump instituted it. But, as someone once said, consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.
