Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein reigned supreme in the entertainment business for decades.

He took full advantage of his position and wealth to have sex with as many up-and-coming actresses as he could manage. The idea was that he could further their career if they sexually gratified him.

Sometimes, Weinstein resorted to rape and sexual assault to get what he wanted, relying on his power in Hollywood to escape consequences. The strategy worked for a while. However, media revelations of Weinstein’s behavior and the rise of the #Metoo movement have finally brought the full force of the law down on his head.

The Daily Caller reports that a jury in Los Angeles has found Weinstein guilty of rape, forced oral copulation, and a count of sexual misconduct. The Jury hung and had to declare a mistrial on crimes alleged against two other women, including Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Weinstein is already serving a 23 sentence for rape and sexual assault from a case in New York. The Los Angeles case brings a possible sentence of 24 years. Weinstein, now 70 years old and in poor health, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez summed up the case during the trial’s closing arguments. “It is time for the defendant’s reign of terror to end. It is time for the kingmaker to be brought to justice.”

Martinez also touched on how the Hollywood entertainment industry enabled Weinstein’s preying on vulnerable women. “In a word, he was powerful, and he held that power to prey on women, to silence women. He used that power without the consequences of his predatory behavior. He believed he was so powerful. For many years that’s what he did. The truth is, many people knew but never did anything.”

According to the Daily Wire, Weinstein has denied all accusations of rape and sexual assault, despite the weight of evidence and the number of witnesses. Nevertheless, a New York Appeals Court has ruled that the disgraced movie mogul could ask for a new trial on the New York conviction or petition to have the conviction dismissed.

Weinstein’s lawyers have argued that their client was not given a fair trial and that too many witnesses were allowed to testify on matters not directed to the rapes and sexual assaults that Weinstein was eventually convicted of committing.
