As anyone who has watched cable news, or at least Fox News, the Biden Administration has thrown the southern border into chaos by rescinding Trump’s immigration policies.

At the same time, Biden spokespeople have denied that a crisis exists, asking us to believe them rather than our lying eyes that see hordes of illegal migrants passing over the border. The Biden policy seems to be “You all come on in.”.

The Hill reports that Rep. Veronica Escobar of Texas, a Democrat, has had enough. She appeared on Fox News Sunday and suggested that the State Department needs to direct “more robust support” for finding a solution. Her theory is that the illegal immigration crisis is more of a Western Hemisphere problem than a border problem.

“The federal government under Congress’s direction has addressed immigration as a border only issue. We really have to kind of zoom out and recognize this is a Western hemispheric refugee crisis of historic proportions, impacting all of our countries, to the south of us. We really need far more direct engagement from the State Department, and I’ve called on the State Department to do that.”

Escobar represents the El Paso area, which has seen an upsurge in illegal migrants crossing the border with impunity. Shannon Bream, the host of Fox News Sunday, noted that between 60 and 70 percent of Border Patrol agents had been tasked with processing illegal migrants and not physically preventing them from entering the country.

Escobar had a ready-made answer to that point. “That is what’s overwhelming the system and we’ve got to make sure that that we continue to press on Congress to reform what are outdated processes outdated laws to adequately fund the State Department because, while yes, I want the White House to do more, I also want Congress to act. And I don’t want us to do more of the same, Shannon, which is focus only on deterrence, focus on immigration as a border issue. We’ve done that for decades, and this is what it’s gotten us today.”

What exactly Escobar expects the State Department to do to stem the flow of illegal immigrants is unclear. She praised FEMA, which reacted to the crisis as a disaster. “FEMA has been extraordinary in our community. They have advanced funding to local governments. They have been a phone call, a text away all these months. They just approved an additional large, up-front funding to the city of El Paso.”

It should be noted that Title 42, a Trump-era policy that prevented illegal migrants from seeking asylum because of the COVID-19 crisis, is set to expire. The expiration will exacerbate the illegal immigration crisis.
