Elon Musk has had to be creative in his quest to transform Twitter from a left-wing propaganda organ to an authentic venue for free speech and reasoned debate.

One of Musk’s innovations, designed to increase the productivity of Twitter employees, had run him afoul of the Mayor of San Francisco. The Blaze explains.

“The city of San Francisco is reportedly investigating Elon Musk for converting some office space inside Twitter’s headquarters into sleeping quarters for employees.

“When Twitter employees returned to work on Monday, they discovered that several conference rooms inside the company’s headquarters had been made over as bedrooms.”

The photo of one such room showed orange carpeting, a queen-sized bed, two armchairs, and a bedside table with a lamp. The idea appears to be for “hardcore” Twitter employees to stay at the office around the clock without having to go home to sleep.

The city of San Francisco was not amused. Instead of applauding a rare instance of someone providing affordable housing in the city by the bay, the city government vowed an investigation, possibly followed by sanctions.

“San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection is investigating Musk and Twitter for potentially violating city building codes by using space designated for work as living areas, according to Forbes.

“The investigation was initiated after someone filed an official complaint with the city.

“’ We need to make sure the building is being used as intended,’ Patrick Hannan, a spokesman for the Department, said in a statement. ‘There are different building code requirements for residential buildings, including those used for short-term stays. These codes make sure people are using spaces safely.’

“’ No one is above the law,’ he declared.”

The Department will conduct an onsite investigation and, if it chooses, will issue a notice of violation.

Musk responded with an air of bemusement,

“So city of SF attacks companies providing beds for tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from fentanyl. Where are your priorities @LondonBreed!?” He linked to a story about a child who overdosed on fentanyl in a San Francisco public park.

According to the Daily Wire, at least one Twitter employee appreciates the new sleeping arrangements.

“’ When your team is pushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork,’ said employee Esther Crawford. ‘Since some people are losing their minds I’ll explain: doing hard things requires sacrifice (time, energy, etc). I have teammates around the world who are putting in the effort to bring something new to life so it’s important to me to show up for them & keep the team unblocked’.”
