Despite the huge spike the week of August 8, the total downloads of Truth Social is still small compared to mainstream platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and even far-right site Gab, which sees tens of millions of monthly users.
The former President has 3.9 million followers on the platform – far exceeding the nearly 80 million followers he had on Twitter.

Trump's app launched in the Apple Store in February 2022 and was conceptualized after Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter following the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

It praises being a free speech platform that doesn't redact or discriminate against different views.
The platform's launch came from Trump following several of his Twitter posts and started receiving flags from the platform for being misleading or containing false information. After the 2020 election and the Capitol attack, he was indefinitely banned from Twitter for repeated violations.

Many of the former president's loyal supporters dropped Twitter and followed him over to Truth Social.
