Chinese government propagandist Hu Xijin announced on Saturday he deleted a tweet cautioning of military retaliation if US military jets escort House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on her visit to Taiwan.

Although, he nixed the tweet just after Twitter blocked his account.

Pelosi, third in the line of presidential succession, after President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, began a trip to Asia on Saturday morning, with official stops planned in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan.

It’s widely assumed she will further stop in Taiwan, which Communist China maintains is a breakaway province, not an independent nation, and has no right to conduct foreign relations. The two split in 1949 after a civil war that saw the Community Party take over mainland China.

Pelosi has declined to confirm the reports that she will visit the self-governing island. If the visit occurs, she would be the highest-ranking American elected official to visit Taiwan since 1997.

While he removed the tweet regarding shooting Pelosi down, Hu Xijin continued to tweet remarks regarding the trip.

“If Pelosi really visits Taiwan as planned, the Tsai Ing-wen [Taiwanese] authorities are accomplice,” he posted Saturday.

“The mainland will definitely carry out severe punishment actions on Taiwan at the same time. The unbearable consequences will fall on Tsai authorities.”

The Chinese military, in the meantime, conducted live-fire exercises Saturday off its coast opposite Taiwan as the speaker was flying east.

The People’s Liberation Army conducted the drills near the Pingtan islands off Fujian province, the official Xinhua News Agency declared.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) was due to depart Friday on a multi-nation tour of Asia and has declined to confirm reports that she will visit the self-governing island in a demonstration of backing for Taiwan’s de facto independence.

“I don’t ever talk about my travel because as some of you know, it’s a security issue,” the speaker explained reporters at a news conference earlier Friday.

She later continued, “I’m very excited if — should we go — to the countries that we, you’ll be hearing about along the way.”

Pelosi framed the trip as part of an effort to involve Congress in the Biden administration’s attempts to build closer ties between the US and Asia.

“We have global responsibilities, whether it comes to three things, I would say: security, economy and governance. And this will be part of that. Thank you all,” she announce before departing her press conference.

The White House declined to respond to Hu’s threat, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling it a “hypothetical.”
