About a third — 34% — of likely voters say the public hearings by the House select committee examining the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol have made them more inclined to vote for Democrats in the midterm elections, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.

However, 30% say the hearings have made them more likely to vote Republicans. And 32% say the hearings haven't shifted their opinion on their vote in the fall.

The rest of the poll yielded other interesting results:

•    47% believe the riot threatened Democracy, compared to 43% who disagreed; 10% were uncertain.
•    51% say Biden won the election fairly; 32% said they didn't think Biden won the election fairly.
•    65% of Republicans say they do not believe Biden was elected fairly, while 24% believe it was a fair election.
•    18% of Democrats say they do not believe Biden was elected fairly, compared to 76% who say it was a fair election.
•    47% of independents say they do not think the 2020 election was fair, compared to 40% who do.
•    17% of Republicans say they have watched most of the committee's televised hearings, compared to 46% of Democrats, and 23% of independents.

The poll, conducted July 24-25, surveyed 1,000 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

After the eight public hearings held by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, the American public's views on the state of democracy and the threat posed to it by that event have changed little, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

At the same time, a public agreement has surfaced that former President Donald Trump acted at least unethically in trying to maintain his position at office after the 2020 election (79% feel he acted either unethically or illegally, including 45% who believe his actions were illegal), that he encouraged political violence in his public statements ahead of January 6 (61%) and that he could have done more to stop the attack once it had begun (77%).

All told, the poll finds that 69% of Americans consider the January 6 attack to be a crisis or major problem for American democracy. That's up slightly since earlier this year, when 65% said the same. More broadly, 54% say they see American democracy as under attack, about the same as the 52% who felt that way earlier this year.
