According to a popular travel guru Chelsea Dickenson from Cheap Holiday Expert, there are some useful strategies of hers, which she applies whenever she wants to get a whole plane row for her and her travel companion. What is even more important regarding Chelsea’s advice is that none of her tips will cost travelers an additional cent.
To begin with, Chelsea Dickenson recommends traveling pairs to book their seats apart from each other in an empty row following a particular pattern: one person should book for a window seat, and the other person should book for an aisle seat. In accordance with what Dickenson says, this way, a stranger will most likely look elsewhere to avoid the uncomfortable middle seat.

As Chelsea said in her TikTok video, that’s not that big a deal if the described method doesn’t work:

“Even if they do book that middle seat, you can ask them if they want the aisle or the window, and it works out for everyone.”
As well as that, you can increase your chances of getting an entire row for yourself by booking seats near the back of the plane or going for row number 13 ‘as lots of people think it’s unlucky,’ Dickenson explained.

Since the video was initially uploaded on the 11th of October, Chelsea Dickenson’s useful tutorial has been viewed more than 386,900 times. As the woman told the reporters:
“I’ve used the hack around 10 times and would say I have a 60% success rate. I’ve heard from many followers too that it’s worked for them – the main failure comes from a full flight, and unfortunately, there aren’t any hacks that are gonna get you a free seat in that case.”

While there still were some skeptical doubting commenters of the effectiveness of this hack, a few people claimed that the tips have helped them rip a whole plane row. One of the users of TikTok, for instance, wrote:

“Been doing this for [the] last 7-8 years. Unfortunately, it works half the time as planes are often fully occupied. But the theory is correct.”
And another person shared her experience, writing:
“I once did this solo. Booked the middle seat, no one wanted me.”
Good luck trying out Chelsea’s tips before your next flight.
